He started his film courier in the1970s as an amateur, making several experimental 16 mm shorts. In 1980 he emigrated to the USA together with his wife Tonička, editor and frequent co-creator of his films. In the USA he shot, edited or directed several films, mostly documentaries (e.g. Powaqqatsi, Anima Mundi G. Reggia). He and Tonička returned to Prague after the November 1989 revolution. Now he devotes himself to documentary filmmaking.
