Bára – Diary of a Rockstar

Synopsis

Helena Třeštíková’s new time-lapse documentary offers an intimate portrait of the Czech rock icon Bára Basiková, one of the most distinctive voices of her generation. Spanning an impressive fifty years of her life, the film tracks her journey from the early days on the rock scene through an acclaimed musical career all the way to the top of the music charts. Above all, the film tells the personal story of a singer, woman, and mother balancing her public image with private fragility.

The film intimately captures the triumphs and the downfalls. Behind the untamed voice and dazzling stage presence is a woman who over the years starts to journal her life to the camera, opening up about loneliness amid fame, and the longing for love and acceptance.

With this film, Helena Třeštíková once again confirms her extraordinary ability to capture the passage of time in a compelling portrait of a woman who never stops being true to herself.

About the film

On the one hand, René is a man with antisocial experience, but he is also a great intellectual. Therefore, he can reflect upon the prison life experience like few others. And so I perceived him as a character worth watching, even after the premiere of René’s film portrait in 2008. I had no idea what would happen to him because René’s life was a bet on absolute uncertainty. There was only one thing clear: René always generated interesting situations. And this film confirms it.
