Pavel Strnad was born in 1970 in Prague. After graduating from the Czech Technical University, he studied film production at FAMU in Prague. In 1995, together with Petr Oukropec, he founded the Negativ film production company.
Among his greatest production achievements are two European Film Academy awards – in 2008 for the documentary film René (directed by Helena Třeštíková) and in 2011 for the animated film Alois Nebel (directed by Tomáš Luňák), and four Czech Lion Awards for the films Rok ďábla (Year of the Devil, directed by Petr Zelenka), Štěstí (Something like Happiness, directed by Bohdan Sláma), Protektor (Protector, directed by Marek Najbrt) and Bába z ledu (Ice Mother, directed by Bohdan Sláma). Pavel Strnad is a member of the board of directors of the Audiovisual Producers’ Association and a member of the Presidium of the Czech Film and Television Academy.
Petr Oukropec was born in 1972 in Prague. In 1994, he made his debut as a producer with the feature film Indiánské léto (Indian Summer). A year later, together with Pavel Strnad, he founded the company Negativ.
He won three Czech Lions for the films Návrat idiota (The Idiot Returns), Bába z ledu (Ice Mother), and Dálava (Over the Hills). Since 2003, he has been leading the production workshop at the Department of Production at FAMU in Prague. As a director, he focuses on children’s films. In 2012, he debuted with the feature film Modrý tygr (The Blue Tiger), which won several international awards and is part of the European CinEd collection. His second film Ani ve snu! (In Your Dreams!) was featured in the Generation 14plus competition at the Berlinale in 2016. In 2021, the co-production film Mazel a tajemství lesa (Martin and the Magical Forest) premiered. Petr Oukropec is a member of the European Film Academy.
Kateřina Černá started working in the film industry in 1985. She spent three years as a production assistant and production manager at Krátký film, where she participated in about 90 different documentary projects.
From 1988 to 1994, she lived abroad in Germany and Belgium. During this time, she worked as a production coordinator for commercials, documentaries, and feature films. After returning to Prague in 1994, she began producing commercials and music videos, of which she had produced more than 60 by 1998. In 1995, she worked on her first feature film Marian (directed Petr Václav) as an executive producer. From 1995 to 2000, she worked on many feature and documentary films as a production manager, executive producer, or producer. In 2000, she started working as a producer at Negativ.
Milan Kuchynka was born in 1977 in Valašské Meziříčí. After finishing secondary school, he worked as a sound engineer in Pavel Šmok’s Prague Chamber Ballet.
During his studies at FAMU, he already participated as an executive producer on the films Želary, Pupendo, and Horem pádem (Up and Down). He made his debut as a producer in Negativ with Marek Najbrt’s film Mistři (Champions), with whom he also shot Protektor (Protector; Czech Lion for Best Film in 2009) and Polski Film. Since 2013, he has also been working on series, e.g. Autobazar Monte Karlo, Žrouti, Třídní schůzka, Terapie sdílením, and Kancelář Blaník (Blaník Office), for which he won his second Czech Lion in 2015. He is the winner of the International Emmy Awards for the series #martyisdead.
