About the film

The creators of the feature film President Blaník, whose protagonist is lobbyist Antonín Blaník (Marek Daniel), completed their film in record time. The plot of the film that follows a successful series takes place in the background of the real events of the second direct election of the president of the Czech Republic. It thus features a number of actual figures of Czech political and social life. The first round of the presidential election took place on January 12-13 and the second on January 26-27. President Blaník entered cinemas already on February 1st. The filmmakers had to be prepared for different variants of the outcome of the presidential election so that a few days after the announcement of the name of the president, a version of the film depicting the current result could be released.

Although the feature film is a sequel to a celebrated internet series, which viewers know from Stream.cz internet television, the difference compared to the series is not only in the more cinematic shooting style. For example, the filming takes place in the cinemascope format, and the creators use other locations and a number of exteriors. At the same time, they do not solve one specific affair but follow the continuous story of Tonda Blaník’s candidacy for the presidency and his subsequent dealing with failure. It also looks into the privacy of the characters, and the whole plot is more involved in the actual happenings in the political scene. The film features, among others, anchorman Jakub Železný, lawyer Tomáš Sokol, economist Tomáš Sedláček, Ladislav Špaček, and singer Tomáš Klus.
