Dry Season

Synopsis

A contemporary Czech village. Vast fields surround a small farm, where fifty-year-old Josef works with his wife Eva and three children. Josef tries to live an alternative life and leads a quixotic fight against the local agribusiness. Because of this, his family suffers. He forbids his children to use computers, mobile phones and the Internet, which is especially difficult for sixteen-year-old Žofka.
The agribusiness belongs to Viktor, who is walking in the footsteps of his dominant father. For him, land is just a tool for making money, regardless of ecological impact and long-term sustainability. His eighteen-year-old son Míra, who has been living with his mother in Prague for over a year, is coming to Viktor’s place for the holidays. Viktor would like to employ Míra in the management of the agricultural facility, but Míra refuses because he does not agree with his father’s approach and sees himself more on the side of the youth protest movement.
Míra becomes close to Žofka, but their relationship is turbulent, especially when both teenagers start to stand up to their domineering fathers. Viktor tries to convince Míra not to get involved with Žofka, while Josef does not like to see Žofka break free from his influence. Míra and Žofka decide to run away from the village together which seems like the best solution of their situation.

O filmu
