President Wanted

Synopsis

Behind the scenes of the first direct presidential election in the Czech Republic.

Against the backdrop of the dramatic events surrounding the first presidential election, the filmmakers managed to capture the image of the individual candidates in a way that was not possible to get to know through the news media. The film presents a number of moving and humorous moments from behind the scenes of the election and brings the audience closer to the private faces of the candidates and those close to them. The film crew has been filming with most of the presidential candidates and capturing dramatic moments during the signature gathering process, behind-the-scenes of the nine candidates’ campaigns in the first round, and the presidential run-off finale. The central axis of the film is the journey of the main candidates from the beginning of their campaign to the decisive moment of the election.

About the film

„”We captured the candidates in their natural settings and tried to get to know them closely. The media serve us with a media image of the candidates, but that is often radically different from reality,” says director Tomáš Kudrna, who also shot the film as a director of photography in a tandem with sound engineer Daniel Němec. “The spectrum of the candidates was varied, and so was the spectrum of celebrities who supported them,” adds director Kudrna. “When we contacted the election teams, we mentioned Občan Havel as an example of the style we would like to use to tell our film. All candidates agreed to this filming method. At the same time, we promised everyone that neither the film nor individual takes will be published during filming,” says Kudrna.
