Tantra

Synopsis

Beyond the boundaries of pleasure? Another perspective on life and sex.

Do you want to get to know yourself better? Do you want to deepen your relationship with your partner? Although the sexual revolution happened long ago, we often practice sex in the dark and feel ashamed when talking about it. Pornography is almost omnipresent, but love and passion still remain a taboo. Hundreds of Czech women and men have decided to push the boundaries of their body perception through tantra. The documentary looks into the world of tantric seminars led by experienced lecturers John Hawken and Alan Lowen. The film, shown in cinemas in an uncensored version, brings intimate testimonies of people whose lives have been changed by tantra. And it shows sex in a way to which we are not used.

About the film

Unlike other Eastern spiritual paths, such as yoga or various meditations, tantra uses sensuality and sexuality for self-awareness. It rejects the stereotypes and breaks the learned behavioral patterns. It offers a path of spiritual growth through pleasure, not suffering. Tantra brings a different perspective on life and sex – it does not focus on performance but on experience. From our own experience, we know there is a contradiction between love and sex – we can enjoy sex with someone we do not love and love someone with whom we do not enjoy sex. Tantra teaches us how to remove the contradiction, bring love and sex together and keep them.
Tantra teaches us that talking about sexuality is okay and nothing to be ashamed of. Although the so-called sexual revolution has already happened, we still feel ashamed and restricted when talking about sex. At the same time, men and women have different experiences and should be able to tell each other about their needs. The exchange of views is useful. Most of us believe that sex is something natural that doesn’t need to be learned. We learn to walk and talk, but love is not taught anywhere. But on many levels, we are not mindful of sex. According to tantra, love is not only the meeting of two bodies, but also of two energies, hearts, and souls. If we use sex, we can reveal all the possibilities that are hidden in a person.
